Why do you volunteer?

The lifeblood of the Levitt Dayton is its volunteers. With a staff of three and crew of four, we utilize 10-15 volunteers at each concert to make the music happen. They greet concert-goers, sell beverages and merchandise, help set up and tear down, and pass the blue bucket to help raise funds. What makes volunteering at the Levitt so special? We asked a few of our volunteers just that.

1) What made you want to volunteer at the Levitt Dayton?

I am passionate about the arts and supporting them by volunteering. Before volunteering for the Levitt I volunteered for Muse Machine for years and for the VTA and for DCDC. When I heard about the Levitt, I thought it was a perfect match for me – support the arts, support Dayton, support live music and performance and support an opportunity to bring the downtown area more to life.

2) What do you like about volunteering here?

I love the music! I love the opportunity to see all kinds of people who wouldn’t have access to music like this mingling with folks who do. I love that it’s outdoors. I love being useful.

3) What do you do in real life (when not at the Levitt)?

I am an academic advising manager at Sinclair for the STEM fields and tutor Math and Chemistry in my free time! And every summer I teach in a song and dance camp called Red Hotz and Lollipops!

4) What do you love about Downtown Dayton?

I have come to love this area the more I know it. I love the murals and the river and the festivals and the Oregon district and now I actually live in South Park!

5) Who is your favorite band from a concert at which you volunteered?

My favorite is the New Respects! I really enjoyed watching this family group perform – loved their energy and their vibe. I follow them on Instagram and have them on a Spotify playlist.

6) Do you have a memorable Levitt volunteering moment you would like to share?

My favorite fun memory is a rainy day concert running up and down the lawn hawking rain ponchos – so that folks would wait out the rain and stay for the music – so fun!

1)  What made you want to volunteer at the Levitt Dayton?

We were looking for ways to get more involved in the Dayton community and came across the Levitt when searching for places to volunteer. It fit well with our schedules with it being in the evening during the summer and we thought it would be a lot of fun.

2)  What do you like about volunteering here?

The best part about volunteering at the Levitt is meeting so many amazing people. This can be anyone from other volunteers or people you talk to on the lawn.

3)  What do you do in real life (when not at the Levitt)?

Kyle is a recent spring 2020 graduate from the University of Dayton and Shelby just graduated from Wright State University.

4) What do you love about Downtown Dayton?

Downtown Dayton is a very unique area, it definitely holds up to its Gem City name. There is so much to walk around and explore. Currently, we love walking around and seeing how much Downtown has developed in the past few years, while also going into some historic areas and doing research on those spots.

5) Who is your favorite band from a concert at which you volunteered?

All of the bands were amazing and we always enjoyed listening to them. The two that stood out to us the most were Dayton Funk All-Stars and Reverend Payton. When they were performing there was such great energy on the lawn that would make anyone feel excited and happy to be there.

6) Do you have a memorable Levitt volunteering moment you would like to share?

There is never a dull moment when volunteering at the Levitt. With every show there brings a new group of people that make the night enjoyable. Two moments that we really enjoyed were the Benefit Concert, being able to relax and enjoy the concert was so nice after working hard all season. Another memorable moment was the Volunteer Potluck after the season was over. This was a very nice time to spend with other volunteers and reflect on the season.
