Finding Freedom and Connection at Levitt Pavilion Dayton: Sandra’s Story feature image

Life has a way of challenging us in ways we could never imagine. For Sandra, 2020 brought a heart attack that shook her both physically and emotionally. Coupled with a lifelong battle with depression, Sandra found herself at a crossroads. In 2021, she embarked on a journey to rediscover herself—a journey that led her to Levitt Pavilion Dayton.

In her words:

“I myself had a heart attack in 2020. I’m surprised that I am alive, and I went through a lot! Depression I have fought with all my life, so in 2021 … I soul searched by going to the Levitt Pavilion Dayton! This is where I sat among total strangers and listened to musicians of all kinds and freed my soul and made new friends of all walks of life.”

At Levitt Pavilion Dayton, Sandra discovered a sense of community and belonging that transcended her personal struggles. She met people from all walks of life, each with their own stories of hardship and perseverance. Sandra recalls:

“What I really found was (folks) that were far worse (off) than me and my self-pity… and they had nothing but smiles on their faces and kindness in their souls. Was God awakening me?”

For Sandra, the Levitt Pavilion became a place to heal, to connect, and to feel alive. She returns each year, finding joy in the simple act of sitting among others, sharing smiles, and letting the music uplift her spirit.

“I still sit at the Levitt with those that still are alive, and I meet new faces each year where I feel free and uplifting to myself and others around me!”

Sandra’s story beautifully captures the heart of Levitt Pavilion Dayton: a space where music brings people together, where strangers become friends, and where moments of joy and connection transform lives.
